A study has been conducted to investigate the risk factors of alcohol consumption and pre-hypertension, which is a major indicator of cardiovascular disease, among college students in a university setting.

"College Freshman Stress and Weight Change: Differences by Gender." Christina D. Economos, Ph.D.; M. Lise Hildebrandt, MPH; and Raymond R. Hyatt, Ph.D. American Journal of Health Behavior. Volume 32 Number 1, January/February 2008.

A study has been conducted to demonstrate that college and university students are susceptible to significant weight gain during their freshman year due to changes in eating habits, changed sleeping patterns, increased alcohol consumption, and increased leisure times causing decreased physical activity.
